Modern California Living
This project is tucked away behind a screen of palms and lush vegetation, where glass walls blur the line between indoor and outdoor space almost everyplace. The two-story house's facade features a remarkable combination of warm cedar cladding, stacked stone, and clean white volumes that cantilever dramatically over the terrace below. It encircles a resort-style pool and groomed lawn. Along one side of the house is a koi pond with stone stepping pads that lead visitors past sculptural bronze vessels and into interiors that are more gallery than home. From a whimsical hand-painted cow sculpture in the family room to a wall of glowing amber glass panels framing a linear fireplace in the formal living area, the interior's polished stone floors, rich wood ceilings, and poured concrete accents create a sophisticated, architectural backdrop for an eclectic art collection.
This home is designed for both grand entertainment and quiet retreat. A cinema room centered around a sleek concrete-and-oak entertainment wall, a sunken lounge anchored by a baby grand piano, and an upstairs library loft filled to the brim with books and flooded with natural light comprise the home's living areas. Floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors blur the distinction between the great room and the pool deck outside, and custom millwork bookcases serve as exhibition cases for carefully chosen items, such as model ships, carved figures, and glasswork. The house completely changes at night, with the reflecting pond reflecting the architecture above it and the illuminated interiors gleaming like lanterns against the dark yard. 208 Adelaide is a private haven designed for a life surrounded by art, light, and flora. It is equally sculptural and livable.
